Confessions..

Based on the comments I get, sometimes I think you guys have the impression that my life is tons of fun and filled with happiness, parties and hot guys. Well let me just set the record straight: IT IS!! :) lololololol. okay, on a serious note.. that said, my life is also comprised of rough days at work, sadness, loneliness and other unpleasant and banal parts of life.
In fact, today I am moved to confess that I am addicted to cheesy self-help realtionship books and advice. A friend caught me reading one and was disgusted. Hey, I don't claim to be the expert on anything.. and any assistance I can get is more than welcome! In fact I find the advice is applicable not only to love affairs but also all parts of life.
People always ask me how I always seem so happy and expectant. Truth is, I chose to be cheerful and hopeful. Right now I am having a very difficult time in my life but I find that saying is so true: SMILE and the world smiles back! :)
In TT for a major party weekend.. hope you all have a good one too!

It's all in how you look at life that makes the difference. It's healthy to be positive.

On those self-help books, I'm sure you're aware that some of them are unrealistic. Be choosy.

Everyone goes through ups & downs. Nothing wrong with reading pick me ups..can be inspirational. Always helps me put things in perspective.

Just saw Will Smith's "Pursuit of happyness", if it wasn't based on a true story I might have found it a tad unrealistic.. the movie depicts the struggles of a single dad, but no matter what, he always showed the world a happy face...

Goes to show how far your attitude will take you!

Based on my own self editing on my blog, I know better than to make assumptions about other people based on what they write on their blog.

Hey Spice...Funny, that's the topic of my entry tomorrow...I totally feel you on that one.

There are days when I literally have to dig up my "Loved & Lost" post and read what I wrote and the comments people posted to remind myself that my attitude is what will determine how the situation ends.

My blog is really cathartic for me; helps me realize I'm not the only one dealing with issues...It's ok to post a not-so-happy entry if you wanna. People aren't one dimensional...

Happy Monday!

What a healthy and refreshing outlook Spice! I also try to live by that rule, "Smile and the world..." It works wonders.

how was the party?!

I don't believe in self-help books. I'd rather find the answer within myself. It costs less. And if your life isn't all fun and partying, why do have to go to one so soon?

i've mastered the smiling face so much so that sometimes I convince myself all is well:)

I will admit to reading self-help articles, not books though. The main reason i read them is that often I find them hilarious! And of course, the letters asking for advice are the best bit!

I used to read a lot of self-help books which said do this or do that but following the advice would prove tiresome and then disappointing if I couldn't keep up or get the rewards I expected. I turned to philosophy after that, particularly buddhism. I'm not a buddhist yet but just reading about, understanding and developing that kind of philosophical approach to living has done a lot for me. Try reading:

1)The Way of Zen by Alan Watts
2)The Art of Happiness by HH Dalai Lama snd Howard C. Cutler
3)Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

The last one, Flow, is not buddhist but is a great scientific study of what happiness is.

You don't always have fun?! Just kidding, we all have our down times, but I guess keeping a positive outlook and keeping that smile, does help you to get through it.

Hi Island Spice your's is a pleasant blog! don't stop smiling and the world won't stop smiling back but most of all, God will never stop seeing that smile and showering blessings upon you!

My mom is a sucker for those self-help books but I have a little trouble with the whole 'step' program (my mind never lets me just do it)

I'm rambling on your whole comments section but mama did teach a thing or two from those books and the Bible... for every hardship, remember, 'this too shall pass'.

Bless!

Your approach is not only kinder to others, but it is psychologically valid. The physical act of smiling elevates chemicals/hormones/whatsis/ that actually make you feel better, so keep it up.

And I hope your rough patch passes quickly.
